Benelli India was recently in the news for slashing Rs 60,000 from its entry-level 300cc variants. This time around, the brand has started putting out teasers on its social media handles. The teasers say “ready to roar”. The Greek work “Leon” means lion. This leads us to believe that the Leoncino 500 could be launched in India. The Benelli Leoncino 500 is a scrambler-type motorcycle and is available globally in three different configurations. However it is likely that Benelli may introduce only one at this stage and others later. The motorcycle will come in as a CKD.
Exciting! Give me more details on the Benelli Leoncino 500
The Leoncino is Benelli’s idea of a scrambler motorcycle. The design though looks fresh from what we have seen so far. There are LED headlights, blinkers and tail lamps. The tank is a petite unit while the instrumentation is all-digital and house in a 2-in-1 pod. Benelli offers disc brakes on both ends while the wheels are black alloys. Upside down forks in the front and an adjustable monoshock at the rear handle suspension duties.
This Benelli uses the same engine that’s present in the TRK502. The 500cc twin-cylinder engine will be BS-VI compatible while producing 46.6PS of power and 45Nm. Benelli has paired this motor with a 6-speed transmission that has slip and assist function. It is likely that Benelli will price the Leoncino 500 starting from Rs 4 lakh. This will ensure that prices not only stay competitive but also ensure that the Leoncino becomes successful. However. given that the Interceptor 650 is just Rs 2.5 lakh, ex-showroom, the Leoncino has its work cut out. Let us know in the comments if you will prefer buying a Benelli over a RE motorcycle. Benelli will also display the bike at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020. It is scheduled from Feb 7 onwards.
