The Bajaj range of cruisers have been updated to meet BS6 standards. While the Bajaj Pulsar family has been updated sometime back, the Avengers were done a bit later. The Bajaj Avenger 220 BS6 price in India is Rs 1.16 lakh. This is an increase by Rs 12,200 over the BS4 model. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Mumbai. Bookings have started but as we are aware, deliveries will happen post the lift of lockdown. This also reminds us. You should check the lockdown tips for cars as well as motorcycles.
What’s changed in the Bajaj Avenger 220 BS6?
We will talk about the engine first. The BS4 engine used to make 20PS and 18Nm, from its oil-cooled, 220cc heart. The updated BS6 engine retains the capacity but now makes only 19.03PS of power and 17.55Nm. Bajaj still continues with the 5-speed gearbox for this 2-valve engine. No claimed fuel efficiency numbers are being quoted. Speaking of which, the engine has gained fuel injection.
The Bajaj Avenger 220 BS6 has also gained a bigger front disc brake. The earlier unit was 260mm and the new one is 280mm. This should enhance the braking power, supplemented by a single channel ABS. The rear brake is a 130mm drum unit. A 17-inch front spoke wheel and a 15-inch rear unit are employed. Suspension is handled by a front telescopic unit whereas the rear one is a twin shock. Bajaj has retained the fuel tank capacity of 13 litres. The electrical system has been updated and now has a lead acid battery too.
Nothing has changed Dimension-wise but the kerb weight has gone up. While the BS4 had a kerb weight of 159kg, the BS6 has 163. This can be attributed to the fuel injection system, battery and catcon. One can still order the bike in Auburn Black and Moon White colours.
The Bajaj Avenger 220 is available in Cruise format only that means no alloy wheels. It is the most affordable 200cc cruiser right now. No natural rivals mean it enjoys a monopoly. If you look at the BS6 Royal Enfield Bullet 350, the price is Rs 1.23 lakh. We place our bets on the Avenger rather than the RE. Which side are you on?
