India loves the Wagon R. In spite of modern options available now, the thinking man usually ends up buying the Wagon R. This justifies the 10,000+ sales every month. It is also a favourite of the Ola and Uber brigade, slotting in the micro category. There however is an all-new Wagon R coming and it will be launched in India on January 23, 2018. The all-new Maruti Wagon R has been spotted testing previously and while those images were grainy, there are better pictures available now. It looks like these images were clicked in the stockyard or Maruti facility in Manesar.
Tell us more about the all-new Maruti Wagon R
The all-new Maruti Wagon R is based on the same old platform of the outgoing car. However, it will also be modified sufficiently to meet the upcoming crash safety norms. There will also be better pedestrian protection dialed in. Plus a driver airbag, speed limit warning as well as rear parking sensors will be standard. Maruti will be giving a passenger airbag, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts as optional right from the LXi trim.
From the spy images, it is clear that the Wagon R has grown in dimensions. The front end reminds one strongly of the Ignis. It is likely that the top spec will have projector headlights. The fog lamp enclosures are different as well. The all-new Maruti Wagon R gets an Ertiga-like profile from the side. Bigger 14-inch wheels too will be available. Christmas tree-like tail lights are available with the Wagon R now.
The cabin will also be thoroughly revamped. There will be a touchscreen infotainment system complete with Android and Apple phone connectivity. The upholstery too will be new whereas the boot space will be larger as well. Speaking of which, Maruti will be offering a CNG version of the Wagon R from onset. The existing 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol motor might be updated to meet BS-VI norms, something we will have to confirm at launch. There will be no diesel on offer. A 5-speed manual or AMT will be available.
The all-new Maruti Wagon R will compete with the new Datsun Go and Hyundai Santro, The all-new Maruti Wagon R price in India will start from Rs 3.85 lakh and go all the way to Rs 5.5 lakh, ex-showroom.
