After the entry of the all-new Honda City, the 4th gen Honda City still sells alongside. This is the first time in the history of Honda Car India that such a thing is happening. We attribute it to the fact that the company still has dyes and other related assets of this generation model. Probably once these run out, the older car will be discontinued. As of now, both the models sell alongside with the older version forming the entry point. While earlier its prices started from 9.91 lakh, a cost revision has now been made. The 4th gen Honda City price in India now starts from Rs 9.30 lakh, a cut by Rs 61,000. This is for the SV while the V is priced at Rs 10 lakh, down from the previous 10.66 lakh, ex-showroom. In contrast the new City prices begin from Rs 10.90 lakh.
Why has the 4th gen Honda City prices reduced
Sales for the City have dropped in the last few months. This is a way to boost sales. Secondly the huge discounts of up to Rs 1.6 lakh have effectively reduced the 4th gen City prices to Ciaz levels. The City is no more luxurious or feature-rich in the older avatar than the Ciaz though. It can only be availed with a 1.5-litre SOHC petrol engine. This engine makes 119PS of power and 145Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox is the sole option here. If one wants a diesel powertrain or even an automatic petrol, then they have to opt for the all-new City.
We had asked Honda at the time of the launch of the second-gen Amaze if they will continue the older model as a taxi. The company had told us that they believe only in offering Indian customers new cars. In two years now, as we can see, the policy has changed.
