Imagine this plot. A feature-rich car yet the most affordable there is in its segment. A wishful thinking it may be but Kia India has made it a reality. Looking at the current harrowing times, the Korean carmaker has ensured that prices aren’t too high. In fact, the prices are even lower than that of the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300 as well as the Ford EcoSport. And by now if you don’t know Kia India, then you must be living under that proverbial rock. Kia is known to cram its vehicles with features and the Sonet is no different. The 2021 Kia Sonet price in India starts from Rs 6.71 lakh and goes up to Rs 11.99 lakh, ex-showroom. There is a whole lot of engines, transmissions and features in that range. Kia has managed to generate a massive interest with more than 25,000 bookings till yesterday.
2021 Kia Sonet specs, features
There is a total of 17 variants that are spread across five transmission options, four engine options and seven colour options. The Kia Sonet’s design is certainly the freshest and while Hyundai has resorted now to hit or miss themes, the former hits the nail on the head. There are LED headlights, LED fog lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, dual-tone roof and many other things. The cabin has got an air of flair to it. Customers will get a digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch infotainment system, wireless charger, cooled front seats, sunroof, air purifier and much more. The list goes on.
Sonet engine and transmission
As far as the engines are concerned, they are almost the same as that in the Hyundai Venue. For example, the 1.2-litre petrol makes 83PS and 115Nm, claims 18.4kmpl and can be ordered only with a 5-speed manual. The 1.5-litre diesel comes in two states of tune – 90PS/240Nm and 100PS/250Nm.With the lower state of tune, only a 6-speed manual can be ordered and the claimed fuel efficiency is 24.1kmpl. With the 6-speed automatic, one can get up to 19kmpl according to Kia. A smaller 1.0-litre turbo petrol is also offered. This engine comes only with automatic transmissions.
There is the new 6-speed iMT that acts like an automatic since it has no clutch pedal but one has to row gears manually. This engine makes 120PS/172Nm and with this transmission, the claimed mileage is 18.2kmpl. If you opt for the 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, the claimed fuel efficiency of the 2021 Kia Sonet will be 18.4kmpl.
