The new WagonR is garnering all the attention these days. After all, this is the first all-new WagonR in more than a decade. Needless to say, the buzz and excitement is big around this one. The 2019 Maruti WagonR launch happens on January 23. However, we have got our hands on some juicy details of the new car. Scroll down for the full low down.
2019 Maruti WagonR variants
Maruti will be selling the new WagonR in two variants that will be divided over their engine as well as transmission options. Yes, you read it right. The 2019 Maruti WagonR has two engine options. Sadly, no diesel though. We will come to that in a bit. The variant list starts from the familiar LXi and now includes a new range topping trim called ZXi. A driver airbag, speed alert system, seatbelt warning, rear parking sensors and ABS with EBD are standard across the range, similar to the new Santro.
2019 Maruti WagonR engines
The new Maruti WagonR will have the familiar 1.0-litre 69PS/90Nm, 3-cylinder petrol engine. The new addition is the 1.2-litre engine from the Swift. This motor makes 83PS and 114Nm. One can order both the WagonR engines with a 5-speed manual or AMT. The ZXi is available only with the 1.2-litre motor though.
2019 Maruti WagonR features list
The new WagonR feature list is quite comprehensive and definitely more than the upmarket Celerio. The LXi brings with it a manual AC, front power windows, door ajar warning, integrated headrests, 12V charging socket and 13-inch steel wheels. Its (O) trim will have a passenger airbag on the features list. Both the LXi and LXi (O) can be ordered only with the 1.0-litre 69PS/90Nm petrol engine. The VXi gets the option of both engines, tilt adjustable steering wheel, power adjustable mirrors, speed sensitive door locks, rear power windows, 14-inch steel wheels, Bluetooth connectivity and USB for the audio system and keyless entry. On the VXi (O) trims, one also gets a passenger airbag as well as steering mounted audio controls (only for the 1.2-litre engine).
The ZXi in the meanwhile comes only with the 1.2-litre engine and has got power folding mirrors, rear washer-wiper, front fog lamps, tachometer and 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In terms of colour options, customers can choose from Supreme White, Silky Silver, Magma Grey, Metallic Brown and two new colours, Autumn Orange and Poolside Blue.
From the look of it, the 2019 Maruti WagonR price in India is going to be on the higher side. Estimates say that the price will start from Rs 4.40 lakh and go all the way to Rs 6 lakh for the ZXi. This puts it squarely against the new Santro. However, the Santro has the plus point of a factory fitted CNG kit. The WagonR may not have it at launch but Maruti will introduce it at a later date.
