It’s raining cars in Mercedes-Benz town. Every month there is a new Merc car being launched. This time around, it is the grand daddy of them all, the G63. The 2018 MERCEDES-AMG G63 is priced at Rs 2.19 crore, ex-showroom pan India.
Is this an all-new 2018 Mercedes-AMG G63?
Yes, it is. The engine is a new 4.0-litre 585PS/850Nm unit and it is mated to a 9-speed AMG transmission. Mercedes-AMG claims that the car will go from 0-100kmph in 4.5s and the top speed is 220kmph.
While the car may not have a radical departure to its styling from the traditional G-Wagen shape, it is in fact new. The platform is new and is lighter than the outgoing car by 65kg. There are new materials used and the torsional rigidity too has been increased.
In terms of looks, the grille has been slightly altered. The lights are all LED both at the front and back. The vehicle is bigger than before. A look at the taillight will tell you that they are unique and are rectangular in shape. Maximum fording depth of 700mm is a new for the 2018 Mercedes-AMG G63. A double wishbone suspension is provided in the front which enhances the ride quality. Comfort, Sport and Sport+ are the different suspension modes offered. 20-inch wheels are standard while 22 are optional.
The cabin has a fully digital instrument cluster with two 12.3-inch displays. 3D navigation as well as latest COMAND system is also offered. The steering is a variable assist unit and is a flat bottomed unit. A specific M button will ask the transmission to switch to manual mode. Nappa leather is used for the upholstery. The interior is no longer spartan and is wow inducing instead.
