Force Motors is looking to launch an updated Gurkha SUV in India soon. The launch is expected in the next few months with the SUV undergoing cold weather testing as of now. However, a recently leaked brochure gives out all the details of this upcoming SUV.
The talking point of the new Force Gurkha SUV will be the 2.2-litre turbodiesel that replaces the detuned 2.6-litre 85PS motor. This new 2.2-litre engine boasts 140PS of power and 321Nm of torque. There is also an updated 5-speed gearbox being offered. There are differential locks being offered on both the live front and rear axles. This is along with a low range and high range transfer case.
It is being said that the interior will also be spruced up slightly with weather bearing materials being used. They will also have slightly better quality than before. The dimensions of the Force Gurkha SUV remain the same as before and so does the 2,650kg gross weight. It is still unclear if the older Gurkha will be discontinued or will be sold alongside this one.
Force Motors seems to have a hard time moving units of the Gurkha SUV. It could be because of the lack of appropriate dealerships and the fact that its competitors like the Mahindra Thar feel a tad more modern. The Gurkha is for hardcore off-roading enthusiasts as is evident from the RFC challenges that happen worldwide every year. The company recently discontinued the Force One SUV which was launched in 2011. Presently the engine being used for the new Gurkha is the same one that powers the erstwhile Force One SUV.
It is expected that the prices may stay the same as the current Gurkha. We will keep you updated on the changes as and when they happen.
