Budget, they say is a decider of many a things. Stuff like phones, cars or even marriage receptions. However, with things at a budget, it shouldn’t always be necessary that there be a compromise in quality. Mahindra seems to have done this. The Indian carmaker has scored four stars with the new Mahindra Thar. In what is possibly India’s best off-roader in recent times, the Mahindra Thar not only has an affordable sub-Rs 10 lakh price tag but has now got four stars in crash tests. In the crash test conducted by Global NCAP (the only ones interested in Indian cars), the Thar scored a double whammy for adult and child protection. This new-gen Mahindra Thar was launched on October 2, 2020 and has got massive interest. It remains to be seen if Mahindra can fulfill the demand generated.
How did the new-gen Mahindra Thar ace the crash tests?
The structural integrity of the new-gen Mahindra Thar was noted as really good. In spite of the crash, Global NCAP noted that the SUV can withstand additional crashes. What we want to say here is even if it has been involved in a crash, a secondary crash from the vehicle behind will not disintegrate the Thar’s structure. GNCAP concluded that the new Thar also has a protection for the driver’s neck. In the future, Mahindra can try and improve on the not-so good parts. This includes the protection to the thighs of the driver and front passenger.
At the same time, the child protection was given equal importance. There is the presence of the ISOFIX child seat mounts that helps things. Mahindra offers dual airbags, ABS with EBD as well as rear parking sensors and ISOFIX tethers as standard. This helps in a big way in achieving this score. We have news that the new-gen Mahindra Thar, after this crash test, has been confirmed as booked till March 2021.
