The entry hatchback segment which was vastly neglected in India up until now seems to be on a boom. While the Go, Santro as well as WagonR were launched in quick succession of each other, the entry-level segment too has seen refreshes in the form of the Kwid and now the Maruti Alto 800. The latter is of more interest here as it is the first BS-VI compliant entry-level hatchback in the country. BS-VI ready means the vehicle will emit less of NoX as well as will be a bit cleaner to run than before. While power, torque and the transmission remains the same, the efficiency has gone down by 2kmpl thereabouts. Safety tech also has been made standard, something the Alto 800 lacked big time. The Renault Kwid in the meanwhile gets a slight refresh but still is available in BS-IV format. Not only this, the Kwid also gets the aforementioned safety features from the Alto as standard. However while the Alto800 gets dual airbags as an option right from the start, the Kwid doesn’t even get dual airbags as standard on top trims. All this being said, both the cars will be on the top of the list for potential shoppers. So, here is how the Maruti Alto 800 vs Renault Kwid compare on the spec chart.
