The Splendor i-Smart BS-VI was launched last night. It is India’s first BS-VI motorcycle. However, the BS-IV model still continues. If you think that Hero just took the engine, made it compliant with the emissions and hiked prices, you’re wrong. Hero has gone ahead and made an all-new motorcycle. The chassis is new, the frame and the engine. Let’s start with the latter. It is a 113cc, air-cooled DOHC mill that promises 9PS and 9.89Nm. The engine is fed through a fuel injector. The engine placement too is different. Both the engines get i-Smart tech. 45 per cent reduction of CO as well as a massive 88 per cent dip in NOx levels. Hero says that the Splendor i-Smart BS-VI also has an engine temperature control and six sensors in all for quick starting in all weather conditions.
The styling too is a tad different while retaining the same colour options. The seat too looks a bit more padded. A semi-digital instrument cluster too has been added. The length of the bike, width and height along with the wheelbase too have increased. There is also a front disc brake that was missing from the BS-IV model. The fuel tank capacity too has gone up while kerb weight has stayed the same at 116kg. If you notice, the wheels too have the blue tinge on them.
