Toyota Glanza launched in India at Rs 7.22 lakh

Toyota India has launched the first product born out of its coalition with Maruti Suzuki. The Toyota Glanza hatchback price in India starts from Rs 7.22 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.90 lakh, ex-Delhi. The Glanza is available with a choice of two petrol engines and transmissions. It also gets two grades, G and V. Bookings started a few weeks ago while deliveries will start from today. One can order the Glanza in White, Red, Blue, Grey and Silver colours.

Isn’t the Toyota Glanza a rebadged Baleno?

Well, it is. There are very few cosmetic changes, leave aside the mechanical ones. The Toyota Glanza bears a different grille than the Baleno and of course carries the Toyota logo. 15-inch alloy wheels too are available. Inside, the cabin feels much like that of the Baleno again, save for the Toyota logos. One gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There are also rear AC vents provided.

In terms of engine, there are two petrol units on offer. These are BS-VI compliant and are borrowed from Maruti Suzuki again. The 1.2-litre K12B engine makes 83PS and 114Nm. This engine can be ordered with a 5-speed manual or CVT. There is also the option of a new dualjet 1.2-litre K12C motor that makes a higher 90PS but the same amount of torque as the other engine. Only a 5-speed manual can be optioned here and one also gets a mild hybrid technology with this engine.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Glanza CVT returns a claimed 19.56kmpl, the manual 21kmpl and the K12C manual 23.87kmpl. There is no diesel engine on offer. Dual airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, reverse parking sensors, front seatbelt reminders, ISOFIX child seat anchorages and speed sensitive auto door locks are standard across range. If you were thinking that it is better to go for the Maruti Baleno than the Glanza, then there is a slight clarification. The Toyota Glanza warranty is one lakh kilometre or three years, whichever is earlier. This is extendable to an additional two years and two lakh twenty thousand kilometres. In the meanwhile, the Maruti Baleno gets a standard two year or 40,000km warranty.
