Maruti has been on a launch roll. Its been hardly six months since the new Ertiga has been launched in the market. To consolidate its leadership in the segment, Maruti has introduced the taxi variant as well. The new Maruti Ertiga Tour M, as it is called, retails for Rs 8 lakh, ex-Delhi. At the moment, the MPV is available only with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and SHVS set-up. There is no CNG on offer as a factory fitment. However, a few dealers we spoke to confirmed that they can fit one to the car before delivery.
What all features does the Maruti Ertiga Tour M have?
The Maruti Ertiga Tour M is based on the VXi trim. This means it has got front as well as rear power windows, electrically foldable as well as adjusting mirrors, driver as well as front passenger seatbelt reminder, manual AC and power steering. Creature comforts also include one touch lane change indicator, audio system with USB, Bluetooth and aux, two row power outlets and steering mounted audio controls. As far as safety is concerned, seat belts for all three rows, ABS with EBD and dual airbags are available. Exterior features include wheel caps, chrome grille, projector headlights and LED tail lights.
The new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine produces 105PS/138Nm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual and also boasts a mild hybrid tech. As we’ve experienced before, the hybrid setup ensures that there is ample amount of torque lower down. The fuel efficiency as a result of lesser gearshifts, is also on the higher side. Since this is a taxi or aimed at cab aggregates, the maximum speed is limited to 80kmph. All these traits should make it a darling of the taxi brigade.
At an on-road price of less than Rs 11 lakh, the Maruti Ertiga Tour M makes sense. Especially with a CNG kit strapped on. While this might limit its luggage carrying capacity, it will present those taking a taxi with a bigger and more luxurious motoring experience.
