Maruti Suzuki has added the all-new 1.5 diesel engine to another one of its workhorse, the Ertiga. The new Maruti Ertiga 1.5 diesel price in India starts from Rs 9.86 lakh and goes all the way to Rs 11.20 lakh, ex-Delhi. There are three trims on offer (VDi, ZDi and ZDi+). The ZDi is priced at Rs 10.69 lakh. Compared to the 1.3 diesel engine in the same trims, the DDiS 225 powered Ertigas are around Rs 30,000 more. Bookings have already commenced while the deliveries will begin soon.
Didn’t Maruti announce that they are done with diesel engines?
Yes, they did. However, a recent report claims that Maruti is ready to continue with diesels provided the customers are ready to bear the extra expense of a cleaner engine. The Ertiga diesel now gets added power. The 1.5-litre fixed geometry turbocharged diesel engine makes 95PS of power and 225Nm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Ertiga 1.5 diesel goes 24.2kmpl while the 1.3-litre does an additional 1.2km on one litre.
We’ve experienced this engine in the Ciaz and we feel that while it is not the most powerful motor out there, the engine has enough spunk. It demands lesser gearshifts and is tractable too. What’s more, this engine is way more refined than the older Fiat motor. Being a Maruti means service costs will be lower too.
The Ertiga got a facelift late last year. It is one of India’s best selling budget MPVs. The competition includes cars like the Mahindra Marazzo and the Renault Lodgy. However, the Maruti Ertiga has always proved its mettle. It is also offered with a new 1.5-litre petrol engine. This motor can be optioned with a 5-speed manual or with an automatic. We’ve driven the petrol Ertiga and found it to be very torquey and effective for hauling loads in the city confines. Not only this, the Ertiga has also got more space and clever optimisation of resources.
