Trust us Indians to spoil a party or two. With its closest rival, the Harrier already off to a roaring start and the upcoming Venue as well as Hector promising a price tag lower, Mahindra had to do it. They have gone ahead and launched a new base trim of the XUV500. The Mahindra XUV500 W3 trim price in India is Rs 12.22 lakh, ex-Mumbai. The previous base version was the W5 and it is priced at Rs 12.80 lakh. Bookings for the W3 are now being taken across all Mahindra dealerships in the country while deliveries will commence within a month.
What all does the Mahindra XUV500 W3 trim lose out on?
It is a base trim so not many frills are available. However, Mahindra has made sure that the SUV does get projector headlights, twin exhausts, roof rails, 17-inch steel wheels and power adjustable ORVMs. The AC is a manual unit while the upholstery is a jacquard fabric. Mobile charging points are available for the front row while the steering is tilt adjustable. Follow-me-home headlights, all four power windows, split seats and 6-way adjustable driver’s seat are also on offer. In terms of safety features, all four disc brakes, dual airbags and ABS with EBD are on offer.
The Mahindra XUV500 W3 is offered only with the 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that produces 155PS/360Nm. This engine is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. It is likely, and if there is demand, that the petrol version could also be introduced with a manual transmission.
In recent times, as we have noted before, the XUV500 sales have dropped. This new entry point pricing will help lure customers who were previously looking at the Ertiga ZDI, EcoSport Titanium and other compact SUV models. The pricing itself overlaps other small Mahindra products like the XUV300 diesel. We aren’t complaining though, are we?
