Isn’t the Mahindra Alturas G4 a SsangYong Rexton?

Yes, it is. Since Mahindra owns SsangYong and the Korean brand didn’t have much recall with the earlier products, the Rexton has been launched as a Mahindra. Apart from the grille, logo, 20-inch wheels as well as different music system, the Alturas is the same as the Rexton. Mahindra has got in its toothy grille, 18-inch alloys as well as an Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible touchscreen music system. The latter is an all-new unit developed specifically for the Mahindra Alturas G4.

In terms of creature comforts, there are ventilated front seats, driver’s seat which is electrically powered and has memory function, dual-zone climate control, Nappa leather seats as well as a 360 degree view camera. A powered tail gate as well as an electric sunroof too are part of the package.

As far as the engine is concerned, it is a 2.2-litre diesel unit. This engine will send power to either the rear wheels or all-four wheels depending on the trim selected. The turbocharged motor produces 181PS of power and 420Nm of torque. A Mercedes-Benz sourced 7-speed automatic transmission is used.

Safety features in the Mahindra Alturas G4 include nine airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, active roll over protection and more. The aforementioned 360 degree camera though isn’t paired to a semi auto parking feature like the Endeavour. This could be a miss since the Endeavour is much loved for this feature. The Mahindra Alturas G4 competes with the Isuzu MU-X, Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour.
