Ford has been regularly updating its vehicles in India. The EcoSport, its mainstay in the country, got a proper facelift as well as addition of new trims within the last one year. However, it seems like Ford isn’t done yet. They are going to introduce the Thunder Edition in India. Yes, the Ford EcoSport Thunder has been spotted in India and will go on sale in June 2019. It will be available with petrol as well as diesel engines but only with a manual transmission.
Is the Ford EcoSport Thunder only a cosmetic version?
Yes, the Ford EcoSport Thunder is going to be a cosmetic version only. It will sit below the Signature trim. Moreover, this will be a regular variant and not a limited edition unit. Changes, as can be seen from the images, include gloss black grille, black decal on the hood, black roof, black fog lamp nacelles, Thunder badging on the sides as well as at the rear. Ford has also given 17-inch black alloy wheels with the Thunder trim.
Inside, there will be a touchscreen music system. However, this will be the same unit that is given in the Titanium-spec and will not have SYNC3 capability. In short, no Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Furthermore, there will be Thunder branding on the seats too and a new cloth upholstery. In short, like the Blu trim of the Figo and Aspire that was launched recently, even the Thunder will carry minimal changes.
Speaking of changes, there will none to the powertrains. The Ford EcoSport Thunder will have a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 123PS/150Nm while the 1.5-litre diesel makes 100PS/205Nm, Both the engines will be paired to a 5-speed manual.
With the introduction of recent competition in the form of the Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon as well as the Hyundai Venue, Ford India has been facing the heat. The company plans to offset it with this slightly refreshed trim of the EcoSport. Expect the Ford EcoSport Thunder price in India to be slightly higher than the Titanium trims. The question arises now as to which version should the customer choose now.
