Ducati is celebrating 25 years of the launch of the first ever Ducati 916 superbike. The first 916 was a game changer in the segment and started the legacy of the superbikes for the company that is being continued even today. And to celebrate the legacy, Ducati has launched 916-inspired version of its current Panigale V4, called the Ducati Panigale V4 25 Anniversario 916.
The limited edition superbike is based on the current Panigale V4 S model with addition of some racing elements from the Panigale V4 R. The engine remains the same as the V4 S which is a 1103cc V4 motor capable of producing 214 horsepower and 124 Nm of torque. The anniversary edition packs some track focused features like Ducati Quick Shift EVO 2 and Ducati Traction Control EVO 2.
Talking about the original Ducati 916, it not only was a beautiful road bike and an enormous sales success, it dominated the racing world too. After its debut in 1994, the 916 SBK won 120 races, 8 constructors’ titles and 6 riders’ titles, four of them with Carl Fogarty.
On the occasion of the international launch, Ducati also honoured Californian Carlin Dunne, the Spider Grips Ducati team rider who recently died at Pikes Peak. Ducati has decided to remove Dunne’s jersey number 5 from the sale in his honour. The will also go for an auction and the amount raised from it will be used to provide financial support to Carlin’s mother.
Ducati will only built 500 units of the limited edition Ducati Panigale V4 25 Anniversario 916 worldwide, making it a collector’s bike. It will hit the Indian showrooms in October this year and will be available for sale at a price of Rs 54.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
