While there were talks and sighting of the new Bajaj Avenger 160, the company so far has been tight lipped. Now the time has come for the company to give a clarification. And it has done the same with the launch of the cruiser bike. The Bajaj Avenger 160 price in India is Rs 82,253, ex-Delhi. Bookings have started and there are two paint schemes to start from – Spicy Red and Ebony Black. Deliveries should start in a week’s time.
I guess, the Bajaj Avenger 160 nameplate means a 160cc engine?
Yes, you’re right. The Bajaj Avenger 160 gets a new 160cc, single cylinder engine. This engine is the same one used in the NS160. However, it has been slightly retuned for the Avenger’s intended purpose. The air-cooled motor produces 15PS of power and 13.5Nm. A 5-speed gearbox is coupled with this motor. The weight of the motorcycle is 150kg and Bajaj says that the increased power has enabled them to have a better power-to-weight ratio for this bike.
An analog instrument cluster, LED DRLs as well as a single channel ABS have been given. The Bajaj Avenger 160, in looks, seems quite similar to its other siblings. It is being said that the Avenger 180 has been discontinued, however the ever lat-to-be updated Bajaj website still lists the bike.
Conventional forks in the front and twin shock absorbers in the rear handle suspension duties. There is a disc brake in the front and a drum unit at the back. The ground clearance is 177mm while the seat is low slung. Since this is the Street version, the motorcycle gets a 17-inch alloy wheel at the front and a 15-inch unit at the rear.
The Avenger 160 will lock horns with the Suzuki Intruder. The latter is priced significantly higher but boasts a more premium styling and has an all-digital instrument cluster.
