Renault India was quiet last year. The company’s Captur SUV, err didnt capture the attention of the buying public as much as the company would have liked it to. However, the mainstays, the Kwid and Duster are the cash cows of the company. Renault has now introduced the 2019 edition of the Kwid. The 2019 Renault Kwid price in India starts from Rs 2.66 lakh and goes all the way to Rs 4.63 lakh, ex-Delhi. What this says is that the prices haven’t been increased despite the added features on offer. Bookings have already started and deliveries will be scheduled within two weeks time.
What are the new features of the 2019 Renault Kwid?
Ahead of the government mandated laws coming in to effect, Renault India has equipped the Kwid now with safety features. The 2019 Renault Kwid now boasts a driver airbag, driver and front passenger seat belt warning, ABS with EBD, speed alert system as well as rear ELR seat belt for the middle passenger. All of these are standard. What isn’t standard is the new touchscreen infotainment system that gets Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, video playback through USB, push to talk and a fast USB charger. All these features make the Kwid even more alluring and a very compelling entry level option.
The Kwid has faced flak in the past with respect to crash tests conducted on it. While it is unclear at the moment if the body shell has been strengthened or not, the addition of these standard safety features will definitely help it improve the ratings.
Any mechanical changes in the 2019 Renault Kwid?
Unfortunately not. The Kwid still has a 800cc and 1.0-litre petrol engines. While the 800cc unit makes 54PS and 72Nm, the 1.0-litre makes 67PS and 90Nm. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual while there is an AMT on offer too but only with the bigger engine. Renault claims a mileage of 25.41kmpl with the 800cc motor and 23kmpl with the 1.0-litre.
The crossover stance of the Kwid as well as the ease of driving it has endeared the car to many a Indian buyer. Add to it, the four year or 1,00,000km warranty gives you peace of mind. However with the advent of fresh competition in the form of the Datsun Go, Maruti WagonR and the Hyundai Santro means that the Kwid is finding it hard to please buyers. However, given the affordability at hand and now with the added features, the 2019 Renault Kwid can breathe easy.
