BMW seems to be on a launch spree! This time, it is the delectable 2019 Mini Cooper JCW. Yes, the one the editor drools over big time. This time, the keyboard too is slobbery as the 2019 edition boasts more improvement in the engine department and needless to say, the looks too. Bookings have started while deliveries will be fulfilled in the next couple of months, June to be exact. The JCW comes in as a CBU. The paint schemes include
Chilli Red, Electric Blue, Emerald Grey, Melting Silver, Midnight Black, Pepper White, Solaris Orange, Starlight Blue, Thunder Grey and White Silver and in the exclusive John Cooper Works Rebel Green.
What’s the thing to rave about in this 2019 Mini Cooper JCW?
For starters, the engine is still the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit. However, unlike previous JCW iterations, this one isn’t a mildly fettled unit. In fact, it is a properly tuned engine. The power has been bumped up from the standard 192PS to now 234PS. The torque too has increased to 320Nm now from the previous 270Nm. Power is transmitted to the wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission that also comes with paddle shifters. 0-100kmph comes up in a shade over 6 seconds. The top speed is limited to 250kmph. Fuel efficiency of the 2019 Mini Cooper JCW too has gone up from before and is now a claimed 16.49kmpl.
All this speed is reigned in with the help of an uprated 4-piston caliper disc brakes on all the wheels. Mini has also got aerodynamic influences in the form of the rear spoiler, lightweight 17-inch alloys, air inlets in place of the fog lights and more. This is also the first time that you will not see the S logo on the grille of a JCW in India. It is because, as discussed earlier, this car isn’t a derivative of the Cooper S but instead is separate.
Inside, you get the race-inspired seats, Apple CarPlay-enabled touchscreen music system, head-up display, three drive modes and more. There is also the long list of optional accessories including a rear view camera, navigation and then some more. In terms of safety equipment, the JCW offers six airbags, ABS with EBD, Cornering Brake Control, Brake Assist, DSC and run flat tyre indicator.
Does it make sense to buy this 3-door four seater car then? Of course, if you are a petrolhead, and we assume you’re since you are still reading this, that’s not even a question. It is the most satisfying everyday useable sportscar that will give you some serious thrills. Period!
